Saab Fast Facts
Saab AB (which means "Swedish Aeroplane Corporation"), a Swedish aerospace and defense company, was established in 1937 to build aircraft for the Swedish Air Force prior to World War II. As the war ended, the company shifted gears (no pun intended) and began an automobile design project in 1945, and the Saab 92 went into production in 1949. Saab innovated many automotive features, including vehicle headlamp wipers and washers and standard heated front seats. The Saab 900 was created in 1978 and eventually sold nearly one million units, making it Saab's best-selling and most iconic model. The "classic 900" retains a cult following even today.
In 2000, Saab became a wholly owned subsidiary of GM. Other acquisitions followed, but Saab failed to thrive in the competitive automotive market and filed for bankruptcy in 2011. Outfit your “well-built Swede” with LED headlights by finding your model on the chart above.
